When I started taking pictures the only acceptable kind had a person in it, because what was the point of photojournalism if not to illustrated the human condition, or  the condition of one person, the singular made universal. Occasionally I would achieve the ultimate: ” the captured moment” — that instant that tells a complete story in a fraction of a second, invisible in real time but eloquent when time is stopped.

However, as my vision of photography expanded, I began to see that spaces devoid of people were the frozen remains of human achievements, intentions and dreams, both realized and abandoned.
